I’m finally back to the blogging world, after quite some time away. So much I could say, but I think I’ll share the latest thing that I’ve been pondering in my heart …

John 5:19b-20a “…for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all the things that He Himself is doing;…”

This passage shows me a lot about the Father, a lot about Jesus, and  a lot about their relationship; but it also shows me a lot about my relationship with them, because John 17 tells me that the Father loves me the same way He loves the Son. It also tells me that I can be invited into the relationship they have together. So when I speak of the way the Father is feeling about the Son, I am also speaking of what he is desiring in relation to me.

John 17:21-26 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Love desires union, agreement.

Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”

Love desires agreement for the purpose of intimacy and partnership. For how can two partner together if they are not in agreement? And how can one be in agreement with another if the one doesn’t have something set before him to agree with. How can one partner with another if they don’t know what the other is doing? How can you love someone you don’t know? Cause surely one’s love is not truly love if one does not know or understand the heart and dreams of the one they are claiming to love. As you grow in knowledge, you grow in love. To know Him is to love Him. Love desires to be loved. So the lover shows the beloved what is in his heart, what he loves, what he’s like, what he feels, what motivates him, what he is doing, what his dreams are, etc. so that the beloved’s love for the him can grow in truth and genuineness.

Because of the Father’s love for the Son (for us), He desired the Son (us) to know what He was doing so that the Son (we) could do it alongside Him. So the Father shows the Son (shows us) what He is doing, SO THAT the Son (we) can agree and partner with Him, in love. The Father wants the Son (us) near Him.

 The revelation is the invitation.

The revelation of what He was doing was also the invitation to partner with Him in it. The verse could say…

“For the Father loves the Son, and SO HE shows Him all the things that He Himself is doing;…”

Verse 20a (the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all the things that He Himself is doing) is the cause and verse 19b (whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner) is the effect. Love beckoned the loved into partnership. These verses are showing the cause and effect of love.

I believe the Father and the Son,out of their love for us. are now desiring partnership with us, and are therefore always wanting to reveal to us what they are doing, so that we can do it alongside them. Are we willing to lay aside our own plans, agendas, ideas to partner with them? Cause surely we were made for love. We were made for God. We were made for friendship, partnership with God. Not to live out our little lives, doing whatever it is our little soul desires. And if He created our hearts, longings, desires and made us for his love, friendship, partnership then surely this is what will truly fill, satisfy us-UNION WITH GOD.
